A New Sense of Belonging
Loneliness and isolation seem to be increasing markedly at the present time. In general, as a society, we are more alone than ever – that has been a trend for some years. The more time we spend on devices on social media, the less time we seem to spend with people.
“It Is Finished”
The heartfelt cry, “It’s finished!” could be taken in two different ways. It could be taken as a cry of defeat. It could reflect a life tragically cut short, and the admission that goals will never be reached. On the other hand, it could be a declaration of success.
In Seasons of Suffering and Cheer
If you are writing a letter on the theme of practical Christian living – on what it is to live out real Christian faith – where do you finish? What is the final emphasis that you leave with your readers? For James, the answer to that question is simple; the answer is prayer. As James closes his letter, he emphasizes that Christians should be, above all, a people of prayer.
Taming our Tongues
Abraham Lincoln once famously said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.” It is no small challenge to hold our tongue. Multiple studies show that people tend to speak at least 7,000 words per day (some studies suggest the average exceeds 10,000 words).
The Battle Within
This year marks the 103rd anniversary of the end of the Greco-Turkish War—a war fought between Greece and the Turkish National Movement during the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of WWI. It was fought between May 1919 and October 1922. The reality of living through such tumultuous and violent days is hard for us in North America to imagine, as we look back from our vantage point of peace and stability. Few of us will have first-hand experience of living through any type of war. But the Apostle Paul tells us that if we belong to Jesus Christ, we are living through a civil war each and every day.
